Hoping to connect with others who get it? Come join our community support group! Connect with others who have experienced concussion/brain injury and learn more about concussion recovery. The group is a mix of expert group speakers and an open support group.

Neurogenic Cognitive Therapy Group​

Sagebrush Speech Therapy patients have the option of participating in our cognitive therapy group. Each session is set up in a "learn, collaborate, and plan" structure.

 

The "learn" portion includes a 5-10 minute education on researched based brain injury information or approaches from the speech therapist. Topics such as self-advocacy, memory improvement, navigating relationships after a brain injury, and strategies for improve sleep could be covered.

The "collaborate" section involves each member sharing their perspectives and experiences on the topic with one another. 

​

Finally, members "plan" how they will reasonably implement strategies and information reviewed + learned in real life. Members commonly pick one strategy or piece of information to apply over the next month. 

​

Neurogenic Cognitive Therapy group runs in three-month cohorts. This means patients can sign up for three months at a time.

Stroke Awareness Oregon (SAO) is a non-profit created right here by member in Central Oregon. Its mission is to prevent Stroke and provide support for stroke survivors.

Stroke Warrior Radio

Stroke Warrior Radio (SWR)  is another resource created and produced by Ralph Cortese, a Central Oregon member. SWR is a 24/7 internet-based radio station dedicated to stroke awareness, recovery, and support.

 

SWR features expert contributors, including physical, occupational, and mental health therapists, life coaches, and medical professionals, alongside stroke survivor stories and practical guidance on prevention, recovery, job transitions, and insurance navigation.

You can even listen to two interviews completed by our very own Allison Phillips, on SWR.

 

SWR empowers listeners to overcome challenges, navigate recovery, and find HOPE—no matter how long it's been since their stroke.

National Aphasia Association

The National Aphasia Association (NAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for, educating about, and supporting individuals with aphasia, their families, and caregivers.​

Stroke Warrior Support Group

Wherever you are in your post stroke journey, we welcome you to our Stroke Warrior Support Group. Your best possible recovery is of the utmost importance to the SAO team. Meetings include open topics and discussions led by trained facilitators as well as healthy, positive, stroke survivors.

Do you provide care or are you a family member to anyone suffering from a stroke or brain injury? Join others who understand the support you give and the many challenges you face. The Caregiver Support Group is a safe space to connect, share, learn, and cope together. Here, you can get the education, emotional reinforcement, and sense of community you need to provide the best possible care for stroke survivors without compromising your own well-being.

Men's Monthly Support Group

This “low-key” group was created for men to share and connect about whatever comes to mind. Enjoy getting to know others in a similar position, while maintaining a safe space for stroke connection.

Young(er) Support Group

Living with a stroke can feel isolating at any age, with each age group having their own unique challenges. If your stroke occurred at age 50 or younger, SAO offers a safe space to share and learn ways to inspire growth and recovery with others on a similar journey.

Parkinson's Resources of Oregon

Parkinson's Resources of Oregon (PRO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, as well as their families and caregivers. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected by Parkinson’s through education, wellness programs, support services, and advocacy. PRO offers a monthly support group for individuals and their care partners. Meetings are every third Wednesday of the month from 2:00-3:30 pm. PRO offers a monthly support group for individuals and their care partners in Redmond. Meetings are first Thursday of the month from 1:00-2:30 pm. Alzheimer's Association

The Alzheimer's Association has a chapter in Bend. They provide resources such as an early stage support group, 24/7 hotline for caregivers and families, caregiver support groups, and learning events. While it's called Alzheimer's Association, they server folks experiencing all different kinds of dementia.

Brick by Brick Bonding

Brick by Brick Bonding was written by Laura Herman and Patty Sherin, who is a resident of the Central Oregon community. The book uses a unique approach, sharing moments of joy between care partners and their loved ones with dementia. The book teaches care partners to implement self care, build support systems, and let go of expectations, and practice mindfulness. 

 

​​Patty Sherin additionally provides trainings on the "Brick by Brick Bonding" approach. Contact Patty for more information. Sagebrush loves the "Brick by Brick Bonding" approach and believes it can be key to navigating dementia.

Early-stage support groups

The Alzheimer's Association early-stage support groups offer a safe, supportive, and positive space for individuals who have been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, other dementias, or related disorders.
